Xiaohongshu got removed from Android stores

Xiaohongshu (小红书, literally means little red book), the popular mobile app in China just celebrated its sixth anniversary in Jun this year, is suspended from various Android app stores of Chinese mobile brands such as Huawei (华为) and Meizu (魅族) without explanations on July 29. The app is still on the shelf at Apple’s iOS platform and Samsung’s Android app store.

It’s believed that the suspension of the app is due to a large number of fake reviews. Xiaohongshu has faced accusations that many social influencers were paid to write reviews to lure people to purchase without clearly declared as sponsored content. Some also suspected that it’s related to pornographic content and advertisements of cigarettes & tobacco.

As a platform depending on user-generated content, it’s always a challenge to achieve quality control and content diversity. Hope Xiaohongshu can investigate to remove any problematic content and get back to shelve soon.
