WeChat’s trial feature to encourage original content

According to an official document issued by the WeChat team, some official public accounts can select "declare original" when uploading video in "material management".

The video successfully declared original will have an “original” label that appears below video content and will be put into WeChat public platform video original library. When other official accounts share the video, the original official account which uploads the video will be displayed as a source. Original videos can also get a higher share of advertising revenue.

At this stage, this feature is still in trial operation and by invitation. And, worth to note that the existing video needs to be re-uploaded to be marked as “original”.

This new feature Wechat introduced shows that the platform value and is willing to protect original content. This can encourage content creators to make more original video content with quality, which will benefit the video making industry.
